Built in 1838, the iron bridge in Salzau Park near Kiel is one of the oldest lenticular girder bridges in the world. It was designed
by the Hanoverian court architect G.L.F. Laves (1788-1864) according to a system he developed himself (Laves girder). The
existence of the bridge was unknown for a long time before it was rediscovered in 2018 and subsequently researched and restored.
This book documents the sensational find and explains the histo-rical significance and innovation of the bridge. In addition, the
four authors describe the history of Salzau Park, the exemplary restoration of the iron bridge and Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves' bridge oeuvre. All of Laves' surviving bridges have been newly photographed for this book by Olaf Mahlstedt.
