The Sonata for clarinet, viola, horn and piano, op. 37 was composed in 1920 (at the latest). The violist Michael Balling, a friend of Johanna Senfter, wrote to the composer about the work, which he had looked through: "I have just studied your Trio [!] Sonata as a real Sunday treat and congratulate you warmly on the beautiful, warm tone you have achieved. [...] The tone colour is excellent to my taste, and can perhaps be exploited even more by adding the low notes of the clarinet in some places [...] and also the high notes of the horn, and the high register on the A-string of the viola can also come into its own in some places. Most importantly, however, it seems to me that you should make the piano part a little less thick [...]" and he concludes his remarks humorously with the request: "So be gracious and kind to the poor hammered dulcimer players and make it a little easier for them."Instrumentation:clarinet in Bb, viola, hornop. 37

Die Sonate für Klarinette, Viola, Horn und Klavier, op. 37 ist (spätestens) 1920 entstanden. Der mit Johanna Senfter befreundete Bratschist Michael Balling äußert sich in einem Brief über das Werk, das er durchgesehen hatte, und schreibt der Komponistin: "als richtige Sonntagsfreunde habe ich soeben Ihre Trio [!] Sonate durchstudiert und gratuliere Ihnen recht herzlich zu dem schönen, warmen Ton der Ihnen da gelungen ist. [...] Die Klangfarbe ist für meinen Geschmack ausgezeichnet, und ist vielleicht dadurch noch mehr auszunutzen daß man tiefen Töne der Clarinette an manchen Stellen anbringt [...] und auch die hohen Töne des Horns, ebenso kann an einigen Stelle die hohe Lage auf der A-Saite der Viola zur Geltung kom[m]en. Am wichtigsten scheint mir aber daß Sie die Klavierstim[m]e etwas weniger dick gestalten [...]" und er schließt seine Anmerkungen humorvoll der Aufforderung: "Also seien Sie gnädig und gegen die armen Hackbrettspieler gütig gesinnt und machen Sie es ihnen etwas leichter."Schwierigkeitsgrad: 4
