Lied ohne Worte - für Violoncello und Klavier. Violoncello und Klavier. Partitur und Stimme.

It was a pleasure to respond to Sol Gabetta's invitation to contribute a piece to her "Songs Without Words" project with Bertrand Chamayou. The title is closely associated with Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in my mind and my contribution is an homage to him as the master of this form. The vocal lines of the violoncello and piano are lovingly intertwined in the rhythm of a barcarole. Despite the simple and repetitive nature of the melody, it covers the entire tonal spectrum of the instruments employed. This musical range spans from cheerful and bright to mournful and dark, all within the brief duration of a wordless and swiftly passing song. (Jörg Widmann)Instrumentation:cello and piano

Es war mir eine große Freude, dem Wunsch von Sol Gabetta zu entsprechen, ein kleines Stück für ihr "Lied ohne Worte"-Projekt mit Bertrand Chamayou beizusteuern. Schon allein der Begriff "Lied ohne Worte" ist für mich untrennbar mit Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy verbunden. Insofern ist auch mein kleines Stück eine Hommage und Verneigung vor ihm, dem Meister dieser Form. Im Rhythmus einer Barcarole sind die gesanglichen Linien von Violoncello und Klavier ineinander verzahnt und liebevoll ineinander verschlungen. Trotz des durchgehend einfachen und gesanglichen Gestus' durchmessen sie den gesamten Tonraum der beteiligten Instrumente. Das Spektrum reicht von unbeschwert leuchtend bis melancholisch eingefärbt in der kurzen Dauer eines rasch vorbeiziehenden Liedes ohne Worte. (Jörg Widmann)Schwierigkeitsgrad: 5
