Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst - "Erlkönig" (nach Schubert) und "The Last Rose of Summer" für Violine solo - Besetzung: Violine solo

Violinist Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst, a friend of Mendelssohn, was one of the great virtuosi of his age, standing alongside Paganini, Vieuxtemps and Wieniawski. Like them, he left behind a series of compositions that showcase the violin's potential. Two works stand out among the few of his pieces that are still performed today, both of them brilliant and technically-challenging works for solo violin: his arrangement of Schubert's "Erlkönig', published in 1854; and the last of his Six Polyphonic Studies of 1864, whose theme is from the extremely popular Irish folksong of the time "The last rose of summer". Henle is issuing an Urtext edition of these two pearls of solo violin literature for the first time, overseen by violinist Ingolf Turban.

Le violoniste Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst, ami de Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, comptait parmi les plus grands virtuoses de son temps - parfaitement dans la ligne des Paganini, Vieuxtemps ou Wieniawski. Comme eux, il laissa également derrière lui toute une série de compositions dans lesquelles le violon peut montrer tout ce dont il est capable. Parmi les quelques oeuvres qui sont toujours jouées aujourd'hui, ressortent deux pièces pour violon solo, aussi brillantes que techniquement exigeantes: l'arrangement du «Roi des Aulnes» de Schubert, publié en 1854, ainsi que la dernière de ses Sechs mehrstimmige Studien («Six Études polyphoniques») publiées en 1864, qui a pour thème la chanson populaire irlandaise alors très connue «The Last Rose of Summer».
Publiées par les soins du violoniste Ingolf Turban, ces deux perles du répertoire de violon solo sont réunies par les éditions Henle dans une édition Urtext.

Der mit Mendelssohn Bartholdy befreundete Geiger Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst zählte zu den großen Virtuosen seiner Zeit - durchaus in einer Reihe mit Paganini, Vieuxtemps oder Wieniawski stehend. Wie diese hinterließ auch er eine Reihe von Kompositionen, bei denen die Violine alle ihre Möglichkeiten zeigen darf. Unter den wenigen Werken, die heute noch gespielt werden, ragen zwei ebenso brillante wie technisch anspruchsvolle Stücke für Violine solo heraus: die 1854 veröffentlichte Bearbeitung von Schuberts "Erlkönig" sowie die letzte der 1864 erschienenen Sechs mehrstimmigen Studien, die das damals äußerst populäre irische Volkslied "The Last Rose of Summer" zum Thema hat.
Betreut von dem Geiger Ingolf Turban bringt Henle diese beiden Perlen der Sololiteratur für Violine jetzt in einer Urtext-Edition heraus.
